Daniel Birnbaum

Daniel Birnbaum (*1963 in Stockholm, Sweden) has been the curator of the main exhibition "Making Worlds" at the 53. Biennale di Venezia in 2009. Earlier work related to the curatorial includes leading the Swedish art exchange program IPSIS (1998-2000), being the co-curator of the 1st and 2nd Biennial of Moscow (2005 and 2007), and the Yokohama Triennial 2008. Since 2001, he has been on the board of Manifesta in Amsterdam. From 2000 to 2010 he was the procipal of the Staedelschule  and the director of the adjoined exhibiton space Portikus in Frankfurt. With his academic background in philosophy, art history and literature he has been the author of numerous books and articles, amongst them "Cronology" (Berlin: Lukas & Sternberg, 2005) and "The Power of Judgment. A Debate on Aesthetic Critique" (Berlin: Sternberg Press, 2010, with Isabelle Graw). He recently has been apointed the new director of the Moderna Museet in Stockholm.
